Dr. Lionel E. McLeod Health Research Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Lionel E. McLeod, who was founding President of AHFMR from 1981 - 1990. The award enables academically superior graduate students to undertake full-time training in medical or health research. The Scholarship is tenable through the Faculty of Medicine in any area related to health including:

- Health services research
- Social and behavioural sciences
- Sociology
- Anthropology
- Psychology
- Economics
- Political science
- Quantitative and population sciences
- Epidemiology and biostatistics
- Operations research
- Decision sciences
- Computer sciences
- The humanities
- Philosophy

Candidates must be students at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, or the University of British Columbia and sponsored by the Faculty of Medicine.

1 year; non-renewable.

A faculty supervisor possessing both a record of productive health-oriented research and sufficient resources to ensure the satisfactory conduct of the research must sponsor the candidate.

The Dr. Lionel E. McLeod Scholarship award will consist of a stipend only. The value of this stipend for 2006 is estimated at $21,500.
If the award is terminated prematurely, unused funds must be returned to AHFMR.

There is no formal application process for this award. Rather, candidate nominations will be solicited from the Faculty of Medicine at the eligible institutions on a rotating basis. In 2006, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta has been asked to nominate candidates for this award. The selected candidate will be announced in Fall 2006.
