Independent Investigator Awards

AHFMR independent investigator awards are available on a competitive basis to Alberta-based university faculty who are conducting health-related research. These are 7-year awards that provide a direct contribution to investigator support, establishment grants for individuals newly recruited to Alberta, and other forms of research support.

There are five broad categories of AHFMR independent investigator awards:

Clinical Investigator

Population Health Investigator

Scholar

Senior Scholar

Scientist

Senior Investigator

In 2006, AHFMR implemented a number of significant changes to its investigator awards programs. Detailed guidelines outlining the terms and conditions of these awards are as follows:

Transition Awards: Individuals funded prior to June 30, 2007 (i.e. successful in the September 2005 competition or earlier)

Revised Awards: Individuals funded as of July 1, 2007 or later (i.e. successful in the September 2006 competition or later)
