Results of the September 2005 Independent Investigator Award Competitions
In September 2005 AHFMR received 118 applications for the independent investigator awards (three applications were subsequently withdrawn) announced below. These awards provide salary support in the following categories: Clinical Investigator, Population Health Investigator, Scholar, Health Scholar, Senior Scholar, Health Senior Scholar, Scientist, and Health Scientist. The competition also included applicants for Independent Establishment Grants (i.e. no salary component).
All applications were assessed by peer review committees assisted by external reviews obtained from the broader scientific community. AHFMR wishes to acknowledge the substantial assistance provided by its committee members and external reviewers and their important ongoing contributions to the Foundation's mission.
Based on recommendations from the advisory committees, in the form of numerical ratings, the AHFMR Board of Trustees made the final decisions regarding funding at their quarterly meeting on March 8, 2006.
Formal letters of offer will be sent to the dean's offices at each university the week of March 12. These letters will include the amount of funding to be provided for establishment grants and the reviews received for each application. The list below of successful applicants is provided for information only. The formal letters will serve as the Foundation's official decision should there be any discrepancy with the material on the web site.

Please note that the health awards are listed separately from the (bio)medical awards and that there may be subcategories within each award category (e.g. new Scholars are listed separately from Clinical Investigators progressing to the Scholar level).

These awards will be advertised in the Globe and Mail on Saturday March 18 and in the National Post, Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald, Lethbridge Herald, Red Deer Advocate, Drumheller Mail, Lloydminister Meridian Booster, Grande Prairie Herald Tribune, Fort McMurray Today, and Medicine Hat News on March 23rd. The advertisements will also appear in the U of A Folio & the U of C On Campus papers on March 31st, and the U of L Legend on May 2nd.
