Guiding Principles

  • To enable all health research done in the community to receive ethical review.

  • The primary focus will be on the impact of health research on the individual and/or community.

  • To seek to review health research that may be linked to individuals and/or community by name or other means of identification.

  • Decisions made by the committee are conditional upon prior approval of methodology by this committee, or a body acceptable to the committee.

  • To preserve privacy, confidentiality, and dignity, in the process of conducting research in the community, while optimizing benefit and minimizing risk to physical, mental and spiritual aspects of life.
