- Heritage Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) Program
The new HYRS Program offers up to 30 bright, science-minded students from around Alberta a six week, paid summer research job in the labs of top-notch Heritage-funded scientists.
- Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Media Fellowship Program
Provides opportunities for university students to work as reporters, researchers and production assistants with mass media organizations in Alberta.
- Regional Science Fairs
AHFMR fosters future scientists through its participation in the province's 7 regional science fairs. Each regional winner receives a plaque and $500 from the Foundation towards their trip to the national science fair held in a different city each year.

- ATA Science Council Conference
Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) again participated in the ATA science council conference held September 2001 in Red Deer. The theme of this year's conference was Science: An Odyssey For Your Mind. An impressive selection of speakers addressed aspects of this theme. Featured speakers included U of A Heritage researcher Dr. Fred Colbourne, and U of C Heritage researcher Dr. Tara Beattie.
