Communications and Education

Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions' Communications and Education department acts as a bridge between the health research community and the public. Using such tools as the web, publications, and work with the media, we tell stories—communicating the results of our ongoing investment in health research and innovation to Albertans and people around the world.

Click on the side links to view video and hear podcasts of our researchers talking about their work; to check out our latest award-winning publications; to read about our Media Fellowship program, where university students work at a CBC radio outlet over the summer to learn how to develop broadcast quality stories of research; and to read about our researchers and trainees who have been profiled in the media. We also bring people together through our Connects Program in conferences, forums, and workshops intended to connect, inform, mentor, and enable our community to share experiences and know-how specific to health research and innovation

Education and Community Outreach Program

The ECO Program helps make Albertans PART of the health research story. ECO encompasses programs that give students and teachers hands-on experiences in research labs: the Heritage Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) Program, Teachers workshop, and Student Workshops; as well as Science in the Cinema, an initiative that explains the science portrayed in popular cinema while providing a venue for the general public to learn about current research. ECO also provides support for Alberta’s Regional Science Fairs
